How to Treat Excessive Sweating

The first step is to have an Este medical check-up to determine if your excessive sweating is from a medical condition (i.e., overactive thyroid, low blood sugar), or a medication side effect. Once it is established your hyperhidrosis is not caused by an underlying health issue a treatment plan can be put in place. The treatment includes a topical aluminium chloride treatment and/or Botox injections.

In most cases a topical aluminium chloride treatment is the place to start. This treatment uses prescription-strength ingredients that are similar to those found in antiperspirant deodorants. The effectiveness of this treatment can vary from person to person, much depends on the severity of sweating. It is considered a safe and effective treatment.

Botox injections can also be used to treat overactive sweat glands. A single treatment has been shown to provide over six months of relief from excessive sweating, with clinical trials achieving more than a 55% success rate.

What is Hyperhidrosis?

It’s commonly understood that the human body uses sweat as a form of temperature control; it is normal to sweat when too hot or overexerted. However, excessive sweating is called hyperhidrosis. There are two types: primary and secondary. Primary hyperhidrosis is usually inherited and often starts in childhood or puberty. Secondary hyperhidrosis can be caused by other issues including: gout, menopause, chronic alcoholism, or injury.
